  4 1/2" x 5"  oil on board.

This is the 4th of a series of miniatures of various subjects.   I wanted to paint simple uninteresting objects into an interesting composition.  I have used wooded spools a thimble and a measuring tape. The set up is in my studio with a strong light source so that the shadows are long and strong.   I took about an hours to find what I wanted.   Here I have blocked it in.  The colors are mostly warm.
