daily journal July 20
I was on the computer yesterday trying to finish set up on Facebook, can't believe how many people I have suddenly come in contact with! Wow, it spreads out pretty fast like roots of a plant. Which reminds me, I have to plant the three basil plants my sister gave me. She made basil pesto and it was great, so I will have plenty of basil.
Anyway, today I have been working on this other beach painting, I will give you a peek. Maybe tomorrow, I will post the progression. I really do not know if other artists have this happen (I am also sure they do) but I can get a painting to a point (going pretty good) and there it is, suddenly, it has no hope for survival. It is ruined!!!! I then say to myself, just look at it for awhile, start with just a small area that you are certain needs work. It could happen to be just adjusting colors in a shadow, or defining where a high light and shadow hit or maybe the contour of an object. I walk away for a while. When I come back to access, I will do the same thing. Finally, it starts to come together again. This is one of those. Having "stick-to-it-ness" when it is suddenly lost and found again. This reminds me of what my Mom used to tell us "when it seems too big and overwhelming, just take it inch by inch. You will get there." Of course, I can only do this in my oils. Have to plan more for my watercolors and porcelains.
Ok, I think it need a little more but close to finish.
I want everyone to know I am not a writer, just a painter.....
